Once more, Strike could not hold back a bit of laughter to her comments. It was interesting the humor such old deadbeats could muster and maintain. Shaking his head slowly, he set his gaze downcast and smiled. Old fogies, for eternity. Or so he thought. Her words had caught him off guard and he couldn’t help but accomplish a double take. At first, he had thought he only heard her wrong because of the wind or something. But then he realized he heard right. And it was surprising. Starting straight on at her, he rose an eyebrow curiously at her. “You don’t want to be a Vampire anymore?” The task repeated itself in his mind over and over.
The more he thought about it, the more he realized it was not an easy thing. How did she expect him to manage it? He almost asked her too, but bit his tongue. As his mind overviewed it once more, contemplations drifted in. Strike had been thinking too modernly and not originally. “It’s a tough thing you ask… But I did say I would do anything you wanted.” Bringing a hand up, he rested it on his chin in thought. “I’m sure I may have a solution…. Back when I was just a lad and my father ruled the Kragarian kind, before the werewolves, there was a remedy of putting the tainted back.” He removed his hand and now held a solid, stern expression. “I would have to do some research, but I do believe I recall just the placement.” At last he grinned and seemed to become chipper. “See. I can accomplish the impossible still. Proof I’m not too old yet.” The grin remained through his jest.
