"How long will it take you to be ready? Once I know how long you’ll take I can plan to a schedule, let people know. And when should I drop by to pick up the radios?"
Davis considered her question for a moment, calculating exactly what he would need to make what he wanted in regards to the components he already possessed. The real challenge would be how to package the thing. Bombs of this type were usually transported in nice safe planes that flew high above such things as radar coverage and far out of the range of surface to air missiles or other such concerns. Here they would be transporting the thing across an open battlefield. The angels had siege weaponry, bolt throwers and catapults and the like. All it would take was one stray shot and they would go up nice and quick. That also assumed that one of the humans or vampires to decide to try and be clever and they would have a real big problem.
“I believe it shall take me three days to construct an appropriately powerful bomb. I shall bring the radios when I bring the bomb. I shall also put together a radio detonator as opposed to a timer and if I can find the right stuff I believe I shall also be able to make a tamper switch. I doubt they know much about how complex explosives work but it would not do for some lucky sod to cut the right wire at the wrong time.”
He could do it in two days actually. But this way, by overstating the time frame by a day it gave him a chance to make other preparations for the upcoming battle. It was not his plan and regardless of how sound it may be, that did not change the fact that he was not in control and that was something Davis did not like. One did not live as long as he had by taking chances and allowing others to take control of exactly what was going to be happening to you. As such it was necessary for him to set up a number of contingencies to deal with various eventualities that had the chance of coming up during the operation. It was one thing to be paranoid after all but it was quite another to be right...
"You can finish those if you like. The Vampire makes good target practice."
Davis reached down and picked out an olive as she continued to prepare her possessions for departure. This he held up between his finger and thumb, studying the thing for a moment or two before drawing it closer to his face and sniffing softly to take in its scent. Perhaps she would think he was checking to see if she was attempting to poison him. But his motives were something far more mundane, the military was not renowned for its culinary brilliance after all and as such there were things that were common place foods to most people that Davis simply had not tried. Olives happened to be one of those foods...
“I’ve never had an olive before...”
Laughing at the absurdity of his own statement, Davis popped the thing into his mouth and chewed.
