Sitting silently, Crystal placed a hand gently through the surface and into the cool water. The substance formed around her limb, engulfing it. Grey eyes watched the mysterious action. She remembered the day when such a thing was anonymous and many spent hours pondering. Now, people simply had scientific terms and explanations. Gravity and the idea that liquid takes up a complete surface. Or some fool thing like that. Without realizing it, her hand slowly sunk more and more, millimeter by millimeter, and the edge of her sleeve slowly soaked upward. Frowning, she lifted her hand and shook it over the surface, allowing droplets to splash back onto the surface from where she sat on a broken up dock.
A low growl sounded behind her, but she never strayed her eyes from her hand, observing the consequences of allowing her mind to wander. Thick footsteps fell behind her as the source approached. Her other hand slowly found the hilt of a hidden blade, underneath her thick coat. As the source came closer, close enough to feel hot breath on the back of her neck, she struck out, hitting a solid. Whatever it was released a grunt followed by a sigh before she could feel it slump and crash against already broken up wood. Turning her head, she had enough time to sight the Outsider she stabbed, somehow in the chest, slowly sink underneath the dark water. What a lucky shot, and she was genuinely proud of herself. A small smile formed on her expression as she watched the figure sink. That is, until cracking caught her ears. The frown quickly disappeared as the dock she sat on slowly fell apart underneath her.
With near lightning speed, she was on her feet and scaling the breaking pieces. With a final leap, she landed on dry, solid ground, with a grunt as her body hit hard. Landing harshly on her shoulder, she took a moment before sitting up and shaking her head. A hand tenderly brushed dirt and stray splinters off her coat. That was until she glanced her left foot. “Why?!” She cursed with her thick accent, bending her knee to bring her foot closer to her body. Feeling the boot and little bit of sock popping out on top, she could tell it was thick with water. Wiggling her toes, she found the unsatisfying squishing noise of wet fabric. Rolling her eyes, she scoffed and removed the boot, then the sock and began to wring it out.
