The fire flickered gently, bathing the fast asleep Komodo in a blanket of warmth that his reptilian body found such great pleasure in. Eyes closed tightly shut, Luca rolled onto his stomach, his arm naturally coming up to form a pillow for his head to sleep on, protecting his face from the damp sand. He was taking a shot sleeping out in the open like this, with a fire to guide anyone with eyes straight to him, but he didn't care. For the last week the rains had come and gone, and tonight, despite the heavy cloud cover, there was no rain; so he was celebrating with a little camp out. However, despite the peacefulness most would feel from a night spent dozing on the beach close to a warm fire with only the cracking of burning wood and gently lapping of waves, he found no peace in his own mind.
"No!" Waking up quite suddenly, Luca shot up to a sitting position, every muscle in his body tensed, his body drenched in sweat. Sitting there, fists clenched, his breathing coming in short breaths the Dragon blinked several times.
Slowly his body uncoiled itself, slowly his nerves eased back into a calmer sense of being as he slowly was able to cut the line between dream and reality. Though, were his constant nightmares so far off from the truth? He knew his daughter was dead, her killer long gone and able to elude her vengeful father. And honestly, that was the part that hurt the most, his inability to have ever gotten any closure.
Drawing his knees up to his chest, Luca rested his arms upon them, starring into the flickering fire. The night smelt damp, the air thick with moisture, threatening the world with another downpour at any moment. Looking away from the fire and down the beach, his amber eyes unable to see far through the thick fog that had seemed to come from no where. Letting out a final sigh, the Dragon let his hand slip into the bag that laid only a few feet away.
With a lit smoke between his lips, he let his mind wander away, or rather lock away, the thoughts of Breanna. Exhaling the smoke through his nostrils, Luca tossed another log onto the fire before standing. The scent of woodsmoke clung to his body, his frame slick with sweat. Walking to the edge of the beach, he knelt down, splashing some of the salty water onto his face.
He couldn't even remember the last time he had gotten a full nights sleep anymore.
"Daddy!" Her scream broke through the roar of the crowd as Luca shoved through the masses of faceless people, desperately trying to get to his little girl.
"Get the fuck out of my way!" Shoving one man aside as hard as he could, Luca continued his panic sprint towards his little girls screams. "Breanna! Where are you baby! Please say something!"
"Daddy, help!"
There it was again, all at once giving him the hope that his little girl was alive and well, and at the same time shoving fear and panic down his throat as he was forced to wonder what the hell it was that was bringing so much terror to his little angel.
Finally breaking out of the crowd, the Dragon sniffed the air, but her scent was muddled and hidden among the hundreds that surrounded them. "Breanna! Baby, where are you?!" His shout carried above the roar of noise from the train station, but he got no answer. Shouting a second, and finally a third time he felt a heart-breaking sensation settle upon his shoulders. Where was she!
Then he heard it. The scream of a little girl cut short by some unknown factor. Running as fast as he could, he jumped down onto the tracks and ran towards the motionless train, towards the empty box cars.
Then he suddenly stopped, the pungent metallic scent of blood and death hitting him like a ton of bricks. "No...no no no no!" Screaming he tracked the scent to one of the last cars, and tearing the door open was welcomed to the sight of blood-bath, his daughters open eyes starring back at him and opened mouth still carrying the look of terror...
