Strings on the formally standard issue combat boots were pulled tight, securing the footwear to the humans limb. All around him the sound of men and women moving about mingled with the clatter of lockers being open, closed, and looked through. The super lifted his eyes and glanced at the soldiers repairing for the excursion into the city. Body armor was slipped on for a minimal amount of protection. Kevlar, it was an amazing material that had many uses, but it could only protect against so much. Claws and fangs pierced it easily, but it was still worn to defend against more light dangers. Yet he was getting distracted, lazily Jeremy turned his eyes away from the soldiers that would be going with them. Instead, he rested his eyes on his own locker. The dark surface of his own Kevlar rested inside the locker, waiting patiently for him to take it out and slip it on. The creator of Haven gave off a huff before he reached in and pulled the armor out of the locker and began strapping it on over his shirt.
Straps were set into place before a series of footsteps heading specifically towards him caused Jeremy to briefly glance up. One of Haven’s troopers, Roger specifically was coming towards him already ready to go. The man had been prepared a couple hours before as he was in charge of the equipment being escorted. The older super took his eyes back to his task as it was nearing completion, but voice lifted with a light command. “Report.”
“Everything is loaded and the engineers are just about ready to go.”
“Good, double check the straps on the equipment and the engineers personal gear. I don’t want any mishaps on this escort. Quick and clean.” He finished with the Kevlar as his sentence was completed.
“Sir.” Roger responded before he turned and headed back to the ready area for the equipment. Protecting that equipment was top priority, along with the engineers. Everything had to be in top condition when they arrived at the target building, time was of the essence. The conflict with the angels was heating up so Haven had to step up its defensive measures, and that meant outposts surrounding the stronghold, this one would just be the first. Jeremy slipped his sidearm from the locker shelf and holstered it before taking his Vest from the hook. The outposts would be effective warning stations of any incoming angels, and would also be valuable safe houses and scout areas. The old soldier began to wonder why they had not done this before, it was definitely a step in the right direction when it came to protecting the human populace. Of course, it was apparent that they had not been at this level of risk for a very long time.
For now however, Jeremy was all equipped and ready to go. He began moving through the locker room, supers around him were nearing completion of their own preparation. However, the old soldier himself was going packed light with only a browning MK3 pistol, a small amount of rations, and some simple survival equipment. It would be a quick mission. Get in, set up shop and wait till the long term troops arrived to take over. They’d be relieved in only a day, but it was still best they got as much done as possible while at the building. It had already been cleared before hand, but they would have to double check the premises’ when they arrived. Jeremy had an odd feeling that they were going to run into something on the inside. Empty buildings never usually stayed empty for long in this city.
Quickly, the creator of Haven moved to the weapons station and picked up some extra magazines for his pistol. Efficiently, he selected a magazine and slid it home before re holstering the weapon. Before leaving the weapon station, a glance was cast at his Tavor-21 still stocked and waiting for its next time of us, he almost felt naked without it. Years and years of always going into a combat with a good rifle in his hands did that too him. The weapon part of him, that much he couldn’t deny. A final look was given to the weapon before Jeremy moved through the military section of Haven and exited to the rear courtyard where they were going to exit. This operation would require as little attention as possible for the protection of the equipment. The soldier hoped they wouldn’t run into anything too obstructing for the sake of the op.
Jeremy stopped at one of the small crates being transported, lightly checking to see if it was secured tightly. A simple tug on the straps confirmed this and reinforced his assurances that it wouldn’t suddenly come loose during transport. Once done with this, he pulled out his city map and began reviewing the path they were taking for the mission. He’d already been over it several times, but it was a personal requirement for him to know the path even if he lost the map itself.
