Keeping up with the wolf was kind of difficult. He moved quicker then she herself could on two legs. Appendages just got in the way of real speed but the beast wasn’t wanting to shift. At least, not yet. They jumped a tree in their way, Jake clearing it easily. Angelis had to land on the rotted wood to be able to jump over the obstacle. Clouds of breath appeared from both of them only to be swept away on the crisp breeze of cold air. They were both silent as they ran, the snake using what oxygen she could find to power her body forward. She had to find the girl, was unacceptable not to. Finally his voice broke through the silence making the she beast stumble a bit in surprise. “Snake bones don’t weigh much.” She replied to his comment. It was the truth. The majority of her weight was muscle. Snakes didn’t have much in the bone department. “I’m always so surprised by lycan speed.” Ange allowed a smile to cross her face. Of course there was no real emotion behind it. Her mind was in turmoil as was her heart. That she had allowed someone so young to leave without someone older was wrong of her. And now here she was hoping to find the child before it was too late. Silence fell between them again and Angelis let it stay. Her tongue flicked out and the taste of human was stronger. They were going the right way at least. But when his voice came again the beast’s heart skipped a beat.
Her small forked tongue darted out again but still she couldn’t taste the other reptile. It just proved another fact of how much more superior wolves were over the beasts. Human science could not compare to nature. Though what had truly made the wolves was a mystery. At least to those that weren’t wolves from what she understood. Ange had never before compared herself to one, but she also hadn’t actually been out with one like this. The two she had met before acted differently then this one. Her eyes shifted from side to side. They were coming up to a hill and the trees were getting denser. Just before reaching the top her tongue slid into the wind one more time and the scent hit her senses. Angelis rolled the flavor around along the sensory spots within her mouth and on her tongue. Caiman. She could swear it was almost like Kevin’s scent but without that herbal must he always seemed to have. “It’s her.” She said softly and pushed her legs to move faster. Topping the hill she could see nothing still but the scent was so strong. They must have been close. Her eyes searched but still nothing. “Can you see them?” the she beast asked knowing that the lycan had better sight then her.
She did not wait for his answer before starting down the hill. The quicker they found Annie the better and standing on the hill wasn’t going to save the girl. Weaving through the trees her mind was in a haze. She felt as her eyes shifted to a darker shade, nearly black. Her silver slit like pupil thinned more. The shift would take her if she wasn’t careful. If they were in luck they didn’t know Annie was a werebeast. Hopefully the girl hadn’t taken now to do her first shift. Coming up on some bushes Ange made to go around them and then stopped, freezing behind the thick brush. There down the way were the humans. Sitting on the ground was Annie. A blanket had been placed over the child and she was looking around. No doubt she had picked up the desert snake’s scent. The human’s were discussing something but Ange couldn’t hear them. Jake had come down the hill after her and she turned to look at him. “They don’t know what she is do they?” she asked hoping the werewolf could hear what the people were saying. She turned back to look at Annie and thought fast of what to do. She could easily run out there yelling for the child. Just hide her hiss and keep Jaccob as back up for if things went wrong. Yes that would be easiest probably. “I’m going to go get her.” Angelis said and the she beast trotted out from behind the tree and over to the humans and the caiman beast.
“Annie!” she yelled running over the snow. The humans turned and raised their guns. Angelis slid to a halt and was glad her sunglasses hid her lack of surprise. Annie jumped up from where she sat. “Angie!” the girl said and started to run forward only to trip over the large blanket. The men glanced at each other then lowered the guns. Taking a deep breath the snake went forward towards the three. The child recovered from her fall to jump up and wrap her arms around the older. “I got lost.” She joked and smiled at Ange. The woman smiled softly. “I heard.” Her eyes went back to the men. “Jake come out.” Her voice was soft and she hoped Jaccob had heard. Annie looked around the other and towards the bushes then back to Angelis. “They help me home.” She said still with that big smile. “Thank you gentlemen.” The xeno said making sure to not say anything with a hiss. “My friend and I can take it from here. Been out looking for her all day.” “Friend?” one of the men said and Angelis motioned over her shoulder. “He fell a bit behind me. Be coming from that way any time now.” Annie looked behind again and waved in the direction the beast had come from. She wasn’t sure if Jake had come out of hiding but she did know this was going to be a tense situation.
