Its been what, a month now since she last made some sort of contact with human life or at least something which could hold a conversation with her and not attempt to eat her. She had almost struck someone with her bike as she finally reached this hell hole when they had been attacked by those outsiders. She hadn’t expected so many of them to appear and be drawn to the wound she had caused Daniel. The guilt she had felt had driven to go back and find him, but she never could. She found her bike though and with nothing else she moved on from that spot. She had hoped that perhaps by exploring the city on her own she would find some clues to what may have happened to him, perhaps even his body. Least then she would have known if he survived the attack or not, yet she found nothing but emptiness and loneliness. It was disappointing really. She finally met someone and here she was, alone again. She had hoped least for a friend in this cruel world, but it seemed there was more in store for her then she had hoped for. In fact, it was like the big man upstairs had more jokes for her. Just as she had thought she found something, the city was ravaged with a massive Earthquake which made you feel like you were dancing like MC Hammer. Well, the concept of ‘can’t touch this’ just didn’t apply as vines began to spring up all over the place, almost as if nature itself had remained hidden under the ground and decided ‘oh, how about we go to the surface and make things more weird.’ Well, it got weirder.
Suddenly, the world which was dead and devastated with destruction was suddenly springing with life again. On top of that, there was life some had never seen before and clearly mutated over time or due to the chaos. It was complicated, and when one thought all they had to worry about was outsider’s now they had all new species out there to consider.
Wonderful….
Well, she had some sort of luck, after another attack by a pack of outsider’s she had found herself heading for the hills, literally. She was lucky her bike had even started after that crash but after a few choice words a some hard kicks it started and she was zipping out of there. She was lucky this time that these outsiders weren’t capable of catching up to her, but it wouldn’t have mattered, her brakes weren’t working. Yet, the trip wasn’t too far before she crashed on purpose again in what looked like an old abandoned village. She was surprised to have found it. It resembled something you would find back in the old days. Homes were made of stone and cement, like someone out here had made an attempt to survive during the chaos and failed. Unfortunately, the place was as it looked, abandoned. There was no sign of life and most of the homes were nothing more than rubble. Yet, scrambled in the middle of it was still one place that stood well enough to be called a home. It was during that month, people had started to call the place Rolling Hills. Why? Beats her, she didn’t much attention to the few she met since they kept talking about a one eyed Cyclops. I mean, come on, they had to be missing a few screws to think such a thing.
It was getting late and the sun would be setting soon. Which meant a cool night and with stone walls, it got cold inside rather quickly. She had enough wood she gathered around the little place and from some other abandoned areas and started a fire in the fire place. She didn’t think much of the black smoke that poured out of her chimney and into the sky as she sat back in a old beat up couch and kicked her booted feet up onto a coffee table and began to sing a tune which she felt was befitting, now if only she had something strong to drink.Wen Iris' eyes be smilin
Sure tis like da mornin spring.
In de lilt of Iris' laug'ter,
Ye can 'ear da angels sin.
Wen Iris' 'earts are 'appy,
All da world seems bright an gay.
An wen Iris' eyes are smilin,
Sure, they'll steal ye 'eart away.
