It was still chilled outside from winter’s hand, snow melting and refreezing on the ground creating dangerous surroundings. The buildings of the city crackled and tumbled from the cold, the plants that had seized the once fair city stayed alive and held firm grip to the stone. Dirt was unearthed from beneath the tar of the roads though still hidden beneath the blankets of ice and snow. His boots crunched at the particles beneath his feet as he walked, his black trench coat billowing around his legs.
With hands deeply imbedded in pockets, Strike walked easily across the icy domain. At last he reached the waterfall, its watery spray unaffected by the cold. No ice shelled it, but that easily could have been caused by the slight warmth coming on the wind. Or it could simply be a part of its mystical properties. Who knew.
A sigh escaped him as his breath became visible to the air, proof his body was running hot. It wasn’t nearly cold enough to see the air discolor so darkly. As he approached, he seated himself on the rock surrounding the waterfall. The stones were defrosted as well. Silver eyes cast a glance to the waters behind him briefly, watching the spray and the fall as it landed to the pool. He waited for someone special to his eye, someone he hadn’t seen in awhile and someone he knew would be displeased with him. Strike had told Oriana he was leaving, though it was brief and he did not indulge her on time. He hadn’t even known the time he would be gone. So he had sent message to her, requesting she meet him here. Last time he had seen her was during the interrogation of the Angel she had captured. Once the final earthquake hit, he knew he needed to explore more outside the limits. And he was glad he had. Though it also had its disappointments.
