Player Title: RedTopaz
Full Birth Name: Nguyen Kim Anh
Alias/nickname: Anh, Ann
Race: Vampire
Gender: Female
Age: 43
Physical Appearance:
Anh is relatively petite, standing at 5’ 4” and proportionally slender. She has straight black hair and almond-shaped black eyes. Round face, defined jaw line, pink lips, and straight nose – Anh is classically pretty, frozen forever at Twenty-Six. Her ears are pierced, but she never wears earrings anymore. Still, the holes don’t close, a remnant of her life as a human. As a drifter, Anh appears dirty and unkempt. Her clothing is practical and compiled from the innards of ransacked wardrobes. She does like clothing and dressing up, but it’s hardly worth it when there’s no one and nowhere left to dress for.
Personality Traits:
Quiet, intelligent, and reserved, Anh dislikes rushing to conclusions. She often seeks to avoid conflict, preferring simplicity, but does understand that the world functions in shades of gray regardless of her longing for black and white. She views the universe as without an intelligent creator, but naturally ordered. The strong feed on the weak and then die, becoming food for bacterium. Existence is cyclical to Anh.
This world view keeps her from experiencing any pressing guilt over feeding on humans. She is, after all, their natural predator. Sometimes they are stronger than her and escape. Mostly, she is stronger then them. However, Anh is also given to fits of compassion, particularly for humans with living family. She is susceptible to begging, and has gone hungry before so that a child may keep its parent.
Anh tries to find contentment and purpose in her new existence, but struggles to do so. Her experience as a medical student is worthless to a Vampire and treating humans is too great a temptation. She feels adrift and isolated. She constantly longs for the past, collecting mementos from before the apocalypse. She doesn’t read much, but Anh is passionate about cinema and music. She hoards DVDs and CDs she comes across, carrying a suitcase full of disks and portable electric players with her everywhere she goes. They are her only true possessions.
Anh is not naturally very social. Even as a human she had few friends. She takes a certain pride in appearing emotionless, but since her escape from the angles, she sometimes falls into fits of blinding rage where she attacks any and all around her. She sees these fits as a personal weakness and a shameful flaw. Anh likes order and structure and will seek it out where it is available.
Weaponry:
No weaponry experience, but like all Vampires she possess a wicked set of fangs, along with the other deadly accoutrements that make her race such formidable predators.
Extras:
Anh is fond of animals, particularly dogs, but does not keep pets due to her nomadic nature.
She is unfamiliar with Vampire society.
History Summary:
Kim Anh was born at her parent’s Ho Chi Minh City home on October 1st of 1997. The second of four siblings, she lived with her family in Vietnam until she was six. In 2004, Anh, along with her two younger brothers and mother, moved to the United States to live with her Uncle and his family in Maryland. There she enrolled in the local school system, where she excelled until graduation despite the tumultuous rumblings of War that daily surrounded her. Due to money troubles, Anh did not go directly on to college, but instead stayed at home and worked at her Aunt’s travel agency until she was twenty.
Paying her own way, Anh enrolled in classes at the local community college the fall of 2017. Two years later saw her transferring to a four-year with a scholarship, and two years further she had graduated with a Master of Sciences in Health Science. Anh went directly into pursuing her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree, but she was not fated to finish it.
One night, early in 2024, Anh was waylaid by a Vampire - a frightened creature who feared the future and sought for security in bolstering the number of his brethren. He turned her, stayed with her for the change, taught her to hunt and hide, and then fled to seek a new convert within the week.
Fearing for the safety of her family, Anh fled the state seeking to distance herself and her new blood lust from the people she cared for. She wouldn’t be permitted to wander alone for long, though. A scant few years after being turned, Anh was captured by angles and enslaved like so many others of her kind. Somewhat fortunate, she spent almost the entirety of her enslavement cleaning floors and dishes, and while she didn’t manage to completely avoid the lash, her encounters were few and the marks always healed within the day.
Despite the hardship, Anh survived. The day Namaești burned, she fled into the desert alone, seeking only to get as far from the place of her enslavement as possible. For a decade, she wandered from place to place, feeding from humans too stupid or careless to travel with a group or too weak to fend her off even in numbers. She ransacked homes, collecting memorabilia of the past. She even returned to what had formerly been Maryland, but nothing of her family remained. Their little house was gone, without even a photograph left to prove that the former residents had ever existed.
Eventually, lonely, tired, and hungry, Anh came to The City - perhaps seeking the company of the Coven, or maybe just a small measure of safety.
Post Example:
Jen stood in the hallway before room 503, her black duffle slung over a shoulder, contemplating the door. Five-Oh-Three in shiny gold plating gleamed back at her. Neat gold numbers on a solid wood door. Maybe it was oak? Oak sounded like a classy wood. And that really had been her overall impression of the staff housing so far: classy. It was certainly a lot nicer than any place she’d stayed in the past thirty-some-odd years. And included in her pay, to boot. Another incentive to try and stay here in San Na’molly. And it was much to her own surprise that Jen found she did want to stay in San Na’molly. Oh, she’d heard about it being a safe-haven for the supernatural, a place to escape the humans. That didn’t much concern her. Humans weren’t a threat to her. Quite the opposite in fact. Still, the idea of being, well, au naturel about her demonic attributes was appealing. Also, teaching… Teaching had been one of the first jobs she’d been fired from for loving Linda. She’d taken a position right out of college as a Chemistry TA. It was two months later that her employer requested her resignation due to “budget constraints”. Budget constraints, her lily ass. Linda had wanted to sue for discrimination, but Jen had thought it wasn’t worth it. To think there’d been a time in her existence when she’d been reserved… Well, Jen had learned her lesson. Not taking your due was a sign of timidity, and being timid meant weakness. And no matter what good ol’ Pastor Evans had said, the meek inherited nothing and the weak are destined only for abuse and death. Still, this was a chance to revisit that long-ago dream. Teaching like a normal human at an almost-normal institution. It was quiet, in a way. Almost peaceful. If she closed her eyes, she could imagine that this is what might have been. Her little, trifling academic existence. A nice place, with a decent job, and a small little room all her own. Okay, maybe not all her own. Five-Oh-Three wasn’t really her room. Oh, sure, she was moving in there, but she’d been promised single accommodations by the administration. No, Five-Oh-Three was temporary. Some water line had ruptured and flooded her intended abode. So for the time being she was staying next door in Five-Oh-Three with – she glanced down at the paper in her hand – “Billie-Mae Marshall, Health”. Jen raised a sardonic eyebrow. Wasn’t “Health” something gym teachers taught when they didn’t have anything better to do? Jen sighed and crushed the paper between her fingers. Better get this over with. It’s only temporary after all, she thought, squaring her shoulders. Wrestling a thin, sickly smile onto her face, Jen reached over to Five-Oh-Three’s classy wood door and knocked.
